MPC Receives Forest Stewardship Council Certification
Starting in May, MPC has been offering Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper. FSC paper comes from trees that are grown, harvested, and manufactured using very high environmental standards. The new certification is a part of a green initiative that’s happening across many Penn State campuses.
The Forest Stewardship Council is an organization that promotes economically and environmentally efficient management of forests. Through its high-standard certification and tracking processes, FSC can certify that certain brands of paper are from responsibly managed forests.

- MPC can print and provide an Environmental Benefits Statement, which indicates how many trees, as well as how much water, energy, solid waste, and greenhouse gases, were used in making the paper.
- Penn State is just the third major university to take advantage of FSC certification.
- The paper that MPC purchases will be inspected by a qualified auditor annually to ensure its certification.
- Customers have the option to print the FSC logo on their printed pieces to identify it as FSC stock (similar to the recycled paper logo).
- MPC employees are trained on how to handle and organize the paper.
